CSUMB Otters scored early and held back Stan State to win series

TURLOCK — Cal State Monterey Bay jumped out early and never really gave No. 20 Stanislaus State a chance as the visiting Otters won the finale and took the series on Sunday.
 
The Otters scored seven runs in the first two innings en route to a 9-1 win to win the series three games to one.

Stanislaus State lost three straight at home for the first time since April 21-22 of 2018 to fall to 12-6 overall and 6-6 in CCAA play.
 
SUNDAY'S POSITIVES
Zach Jones went 2-for-3 with a RBI and extended his on-base streak to all 18 games this season.
Trevor McInerney got the start at shortstop and had two hits.
• The bullpen — Nathan Gutierrez, Nathan Pisciotta and Joseph Hutchings — threw 7 1/3 innings without giving up an earned run.
• Pisciotta and Hutchings threw the final three innings and gave up a combined one hit.
Justin Hines picked up his first collegiate hit and Andrew Mier collected his first hit as a Warrior.
 
SERIES STATS
Matt Elser and Dylon Jackson each had six hits in the series.
• Elser batted .400 going 6 for 15.
• Jackson drove in four runs.
• Stan State batted .269 in four games while CSUMB batted .261.
• The Warriors' team ERA for the series was 3.71, compared to Monterey Bay's 3.27.
 
ON DECK
The Warriors will try and bounce back next Friday, with their ace Rylan Tinsley on the mound, when Stan State hosts Cal State L.A. to start a four-game series. Friday night's game is at 6 p.m.
