Stanislaus State wins long, wet nightcap for split of double-dip

TURLOCK — With a full count and the rain falling, Jayce Gardner got to finish his at-bat before the rain delay.
 
He finished that at-bat by blasting a three-run homer down the left-field line to lead the Warriors to a 7-4 nightcap win that took more than four hours to play.

The Warriors rebounded from a 14-5 game one loss with the late win to improve to 14-7 overall and 7-6 in the CCAA. Cal State LA snapped a nine-game losing streak with the game one win and is now 5-14, 4-11 CCAA..
 
TOP WARRIORS OF THE DOUBLEHEADER
Zach Jones had a hit in each game to extend his on-base streak to all 21 games this season.
Grant Victor went 2-for-2 in each game. He's now 6 for 7 in this series.
Douglas Gragg hit a pinch-hit three-run homer in the ninth inning of game one.
Jayce Gardner had one hit on the day, but it was a huge three-run shot in the fourth of the nightcap, just before the rain delay.
• Justin Hines also had two hits off the bench in the first game.
Casey Carr got the win in game two. He gave up four runs on four hits and struck out four.
• In game one, Joseph Hutchings pitched two innings and gave up just one hit and struck out four.
 
GAME ONE TROUBLES
• The Warriors gave up runs in five of the innings. They trailed 8-2 by the end of the fifth and gave up a six-run seventh.
• Stan State committed four errors, contributing to three unearned runs allowed by starter Tyler Meyer.
• Cal State L.A. scattered 19 hits in the game, including two doubles and a homer.
• Five Warriors took the mound in this game, four of them gave up at least a run.
 
GAME TWO TOOK A WHILE
• With a 4-1 lead in the top of the fourth, the Warriors allowed a three-run homer for LA to tie the score.
• In the home half of the fourth, Grant Bunker singled ahead of a Zach Jones double.
• Then, as the rain begins to fall, Jayce Gardner took a 3-2 pitch deep for a 7-4 lead.
• After the Gardner homer, the game went into rain delay at 5:59.
• The game resumed after an one hour, 45 minute delay and resumed at 7:45.
 
ON DECK
The Warriors and the Golden Eagles will play the final game of the series on Sunday at Noon.
