Burdo Helps Lead Warriors to Victory over Wildcats

TURLOCK –Haley Burdo helped to lead her team to victory on Wednesday evening with 19 assists and a great amount of energy. The team took down the Wildcats of Chico State in three sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-19).

This Warrior team was ready to beat Chico and they did just that. The Warriors came out with high energy, point by point, and were able to defeat the Wildcats.

The Warriors are now 9-8 overall and 5-4 in conference. The Wildcats fall to 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the CCAA.

Stan State had 41 kills, 37 assists and 39 digs. Not to mention their amazing 12 aces.

Ellison Weaver and Makenna Carrillo both had seven kills. Weaver also added five aces to her career, which is a season and career best. Macky Morris helped lead her team to victory as well with 11 kills and three solid blocks. Chelsey Berry had 16 digs and three assists.

Both teams were giving it their all in this game as the competition was loud and each set was more intense than the last. The Warriors fell back in the second set as it looked like the teams might play four until Stan State came back from a 11-15 deficit to win that set 25-20.

"I'm proud of how hard these ladies fought tonight. We were down by several points in the first set and they never gave up. They continued to fight and were able to come back and win the first set," said Head Coach Maci Murdock. "We served very tough and got them out of system throughout the game. We need to serve tough and get them out of system when we play them at their house on Friday. If we do that, we should do very well!

The teams are traveling to Chico on Friday October 15th to see if they can get the double-win on the Wildcats in back-to-back matches.

The women will then be home again on October 29th to take on Cal State San Marcos at 5 p.m.
