TURLOCK — A multi-goal game from
Rayana Plancarte and yet another outstanding defensive performance Sunday lifted the Stanislaus State women's soccer team to a 2-0 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills at Warrior Stadium.
Â
The win gave the Warriors (4-3-1, 1-0-1 CCAA) an unbeaten weekend to start CCAA play after tying Cal State Monterey Bay, 0-0, on Friday. It's their first unbeaten start to conference play since 2015, when they also started with a 0-0 tie and a shutout win.
Â
Plancarte's two-goal performance was the third such game by a Warrior this season, following
Julia Cummings (Sept. 9 vs. Fresno Pacific) and
Ilena Rivera (Sept. 25 vs. Cal State East Bay).
Â
"It's great to have Ray back out there at the nine," said Stanislaus State head coach
Gabriel Bolton. "She really asserted herself in the match and is a terrific goal scorer."
Â
Plancarte's first score came less than three minutes into the game. The Warriors earned a throw-in on the Toros' (3-5, 0-2 CCAA) side of the field.
Autumn Halvorsen threw the ball into
Kendel Gisin at her feet. Gisin immediately dribbled forward, getting through a crowd of defenders to pass the ball forward to Plancarte. Plancarte took it deeper into the box and finished with her right foot, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead just 2:53 into the game.
Â
The Stan State defense took over from there, earning its third consecutive shutout and fifth of the season. Goalkeeper
Amanda Leal's three saves were good for her fifth clean sheet of the season and lowered her Goals Against Average to 0.61. Leal has now not allowed a goal in 352 minutes, 36 seconds, dating to Sept. 18 against Seattle Pacific.
Â
"We played a complete game today and really dominated all phases of the game," said Bolton. "When we had the ball, our possession purposeful and dynamic. Players were intelligent in their movements and we shared the ball beautifully. When (Cal State Dominguez Hills) had the ball, we were very organized and limited them to long-range shots. We were also strong in the air."
Plancarte's second goal iced the victory. Gisin earned her second assist of the game, dribbling straight on again, and passing to
Ilena Rivera at the top of the box. Rivera passed it left, and Plancarte spun away from her defender to earn a 1-on-1 versus the goalkeeper, which she won with a hard shot to the back of the net.
Â
The Warriors next travel to Southern California for two CCAA matches on Friday and Sunday. They'll face Cal Poly Pomona at 4:30 p.m. Friday and Cal State L.A. at 2 p.m. Sunday. Fans can find all live coverage links on WarriorAthletics.com.
