TURLOCK –As fans entered back into Fitzpatrick Arena, the Warrior Volleyball team were getting ready to compete against the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles. The competition was strong and the energy was high but L.A. came out on top with three sets to one, (25-21, 21-25, 20-25, 18-25).
The Warriors are now 4-4 in conference and 8-8 overall. The Golden Eagles bring their record to 6-2 in the CCAA and 10-5 overall.
As the Warriors entered their match on Saturday evening, they would face a team that would bring them one of their biggest challenges this season. Both teams were evenly matched on Saturday as the Warriors brought in 46 kills, seven blocks and 69 digs. They also had seven aces.
Mya Marshall was great at the net once again with 11 kills; she also had 15 digs. With 19 digs was
Chelsey Berry who also had an ace.
Haley Burdo had 28 assists and 15 digs.
The Golden Eagles were a tough team to face as they had big front row hitters like Karla Santos and Emily Elliott. These ladies collectively brought in 29 kills. Defensively, the Golden Eagles had Jeshmarie Suarez with 23 digs and Santos right behind her with 13.
Although the Warriors lost this match, it was a tough game overall and both teams fought to get the win. Each team had their strengths and weaknesses on Saturday but ultimately the Golden Eagles took the game.
The women will be back home on Wednesday, October 13, to take on Chico State at 5 p.m.
