TURLOCK — Six seniors were honored Saturday before the Stanislaus State volleyball team's match against Humboldt State, and all six lent a hand in the Warriors' dominant 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-18) California Collegiate Athletic Association sweep of the Lumberjacks.
Â
Chelsey Berry,
Kiara Erving,
Angel Lambert,
Mya Marshall,
Yisel Perez and
Ambria Schneringer were all honored in a pregame ceremony, as they played the final regular season home match of their collegiate careers at Fitzpatrick Arena. All six saw time in the match in front of a raucus crowd.
Â
Perez had a strong all-around performance in her final home game, notching nine kills with a .304 hitting percentage, 14 digs, an ace and an assist. Lambert had three kills with no attack errors on four attempts for a .750 hitting percentage, and that accompanied six digs, a block, an ace and a dig as well. Ambria Schneringer hit .444 with four kills and also had 11 assists, a block and a dig. Even Marshall and Berry – who have been sidelined with injuries – saw game action, starting sets one and three, respectively, at the serve before being subbed out. Berry even collected a dig, the 670th of her career.
Â
"These girls played great tonight," said Stanislaus State interim head coach
Maci Murdock. "They had heart and fought as a team! We passed very well tonight and it helped with being able to run our offense. I thought Yisel did very well for us offensively. She was aggressive and smart with her swings. Great win for our seniors tonight!"
Â
All three sets stayed very close through the first 20 points until the Warriors pulled away each time. The first set was tied 11-11 with neither team ever leading by more than two. Stan State finally put together an 11-3 run to go up 21-14. Humboldt State (3-16, 2-14 CCAA) wasn't done, scoring four straight points to get within three again, but the Warriors scored four of the next six points to take a 1-0 match lead with a 25-20 first-set victory.
Â
Set two was tied 12-12 before Stan State pulled away, and set three was 9-8 before the Warriors used an 8-1 run to take command. The Warriors hit an outstanding .581 in the second set with 18 kills and no errors en route to a 25-16 set win and a 2-0 match lead.
