Warriors Continue Record Breaking Academic Success

7/26/2021 5:00:00 PM

California State University, Stanislaus' student-athletes continued to break records in the classroom during the Spring 2021 semester. For the fourth consecutive semester, Stanislaus State student-athletes broke records for grade point average by posting a cumulative 3.318.

Their dedication to academic achievement proved strong as student-athletes posted the highest GPA in the 60-year history of Stan State. In addition to this tremendous accomplishment, 40 student-athletes received a 4.0 GPA. Student-athletes persevered through the Spring semester with no competition in over one year due to the pandemic.

"With no competition this past year, we pivoted to providing our student-athletes with a wholistic life approach emphasizing academic success, service to others, and physical/mental well-being. We broke academic success records before the pandemic started and this success continued through some of the most difficult times in the lives of our students. This is the true Warrior Spirit," said Director of Athletics, Terry Donovan.

Previous student-athlete grade point average records include:
Fall 2019 – 3.124
Spring 2020 – 3.215
Fall 2020 – 3.275
Spring 2021 – 3.318

"We are so incredibly proud of our student-athletes! We recognize the last three semesters of virtual instruction have brought unprecedented challenges in the classroom, in athletics, and in life. Our student-athletes were resilient and persevered through those challenges," said Alissa Aragon, Assistant Athletics Director/SWA.

A total of 116 student-athletes earned a spot on the Dean's List for the Spring semester. For a spot on the Dean's List, students must achieve a minimum of 12 units of credit of graded coursework and earn a 3.5 GPA for all coursework at the University. The California Collegiate Athletic Conference also honored the Warriors as 39 student-athletes achieved the 2021 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll. The Honor Roll distinction is given to student-athletes who are a sophomore in academic standing with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.3.

This academic success will provide momentum for the student-athletes as they prepare for an in-person Fall 2021 semester. "We strive for a championship experience for all Warrior student-athletes. We win in the classroom, win in the community, and with our student-athletes returning to campus, we plan to win in competition," said Donovan. "It is a great day to be a Warrior!"
