TURLOCK — Though the final score may not indicate so, the Stanislaus State women's soccer team dominated Friday night's non-conference game versus Southern Oregon, controlling possession and peppering the Raiders' side of the field with shots all night long in a 1-0 win at Warrior Stadium.
Â
Stanislaus State (2-1) earned its second straight victory with its second straight shutout by commanding the ball for most of the 90-minute contest. The Warriors tripled up the Raiders (1-2-1) in shots, 18-6, including an 11-4 mark in the second half. The Stan State defense and goalkeeper
Amanda Leal have now held opponents scoreless for 190 minutes and 36 seconds, dating to their season-opening game at Biola on Sept. 2.
Â
"Southern Oregon is a wonderful team and they gave us a great challenge tonight," said Stanislaus State head coach
Gabriel Bolton. "We played some really attractive attacking soccer tonight. We just didn't have the magic to produce a score line indicative of our performance."
Â
Leal made a key save to keep her clean sheet in the 61st minute. SOU's Baylee Touey broke away running into the box and positioned herself with a 1-on-1 against Leal. She dribbled right and then came in on an angle right at Leal, holding on to her shot until the last second. Leal came out to meet her and was able to grab her shot nearly point-blank, making the save and keeping the Raiders off the scoreboard.
Â
"Defensively we were outstanding, and Amanda came up with the one critical save in the match to preserve the shutout."
Â
The Warriors' game-winning goal came in the 21st minute of the first half.
Rayana Plancarte received a lobbed, crossing pass from
Ilena Rivera on the left side of the box, where she punched it in past the SOU 'keeper to the right side of the net, making it 1-0.
Julia Cummings also assisted on the play.
Â
"That goal was straight from the training ground and something we saw on video," said Bolton. They did a great job of executing it to perfection. It's so great to see Ray scoring goals again. The setup from Julia and Lena was just fantastic.
Â
"Daisy had an outstanding night at left back going the full 90 against a terrific forward. This was also her most dynamic game in the attack. Jenna (Zuniga), Summer (England) and Kendel (Gisin) absolutely dominated the midfield. They complement each other so well."
Â
Stanislaus State next travels to fellow California Collegiate Athletic Association member Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday for a non-conference matchup.
