SAN FRANCISCO — Host San Francisco State used power in numbers Saturday to grab a California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over the Stanislaus State men's basketball team, as the Gators pulled away for a 67-42 win at Main Gym.
Â
The Gators (8-9, 5-5 CCAA) played 13 players to the Warriors' (4-9, 1-7 CCAA) eight, as Stanislaus State continues to recover from a two-week break due to COVID-19 protocols. Despite the short-handedness, the Warriors were still within four points with 5 1/2 minutes left at 21-17. That's when SFSU went on a quick 6-0 run to go ahead by 10 at 27-17, and they'd take that 10-point advantage into the break at 31-21.
Â
Another 11-3 spurt over 3 1/2 minutes early in the second half pushed San Francisco State's lead to 20. They'd lead by as many as 28 with two minutes to play, as the Gators snapped a four-game losing streak to the Warriors.
Â
Stanislaus State was led by 11 points from
Marlon Short, who missed a double-double by only one rebound with nine.
Benno Zecic and
Tony Singleton had eight points each. San Francisco State had three double-digit scorers, led by Eche Okeke's 15 points. Toby Okwuokei had 12, and Sean Orr added 10. SFSU outrebounded the Warriors, 48-27, and outshot them, 45.6% to 31.5%. The Warriors held the Gators to just 17.4% accuracy (4 for 23) from 3-point range.
