TURLOCK -- Stan State needed efficient execution to make it out of Rohnert Park with the W, but costly errors made for an uphill battle.
Makenna Carrillo led all Warrior scorers with 8 kills, picking up 4 digs along the way.
Ellison Weaver followed up with 7 kills of her own. The team didn't get the usual production out of their primary hitters on the offensive end and the Seawolves were able to capitalize.
In what started off as an air-tight first set, ended in a 7-0 Seawolves scoring run due in large part to errors on the Warriors' side of the net. Weaver,
Macky Morris, and
Penelope Zepeda all tried their best to make things happen with a handful of kills midway through the set, but the resistance proved insufficient.
Stanislaus State saw their closest of three sets go 24-26 in the second.
Alex Byrd and Weaver got busy early on, scoring on seven combined points off kills and blocks. However, Carrillo carried a majority of the load with a whopping six kills in the second set alone to help keep hope alive. Carrillo and Weaver's efforts down the stretch gave the Warriors one last shot to steal a set from the home team.
Down 0-2 in the match, an aggressive 3-0 start from Stanislaus in set three gave hopes for a potential comeback, but the team was unable to defend a 6-0 scoring run to bring the set to 7-12. Carrillo continued her breakout offensive attacking as she took on the scoring load, while
Gabby Rawson and
Haley Burdo did what they could to keep possessions alive with 16 digs from Rawson and 12 assists for Burdo.
The collective will have another opportunity to sneak back into the win column against another conference foe in Chico State on Wednesday, Oct. 5th at 5pm on the road.
