Stan State Snaps No. 2 CSUDH’s Winning Streak with 1-1 Draw

CARSON, Calif.---  The visiting Stan State Warriors snapped the No. 2 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros' five-match winning streak with a 1-1 draw at Toro Stadium in Carson, Calif.  Daniel Gomez scored the Warriors' goal in the 14th minute with his second goal of the season.  The Toros evened the match in the 61st minute on a goal by Christian Briseno.   Robby Rosas had six saves in goal for the visitors.

FIRST HALF: Stan State came out after introductions on fire as Finn Hoffmann had a chance to give the guests the 1-0 lead in the fifth minute, but his shot was blocked by the Toro defense.  Seven minutes later, Hoffmann had another chance to give the Warriors the lead, but Sebastian Ascencio stopped the Shot on goal.  The Warriors (4-5-5, 1-4-2 CCAA) took the 1-0 lead when Daniel Gomez connected on his second penalty kick of the season in the 13th minute.  The Toros had a chance to tie the match in the 31st minute, but Robby Rosas stopped Sulaiman Bah's attempt.  Jorge Lara had a chance to double the Warrior lead in the 36th minute when Ascencio made one of his three saves in the half.  Stan State had one more chance to double its lead in the final minutes of the half when Ascencio stopped Tyler Tipton's shot on goal attempt to send the match into the half with the Warriors leading 1-0.

SECOND HALF:  The Warriors had another chance to double their lead early in the second half, but Chase Koptieff's shot was blocked by the hosts' defense.  One minute later, Rosas made another save this time stopping the Toros' Michael McKibbin's shot on goal attempt.  McKibbin had another chance to tie the match for Cal State Dominguez Hills (11-0-3, 5-0-2 CCAA), but Rosas made another save in the 48th minute.  Gomez looked like he was going to double the Warrior lead in the 51st minute when the Toros' Frank Aguilar made one of his two saves in the half.  The Toros did tie the match in the 61st minute on a goal by Christian Briseno off a ball from Bah and Kenny Lee.  Nick Namwali saw his chance to give the Warriors back in the lead in the 61st minute be stopped by the Toros' keeper.  Rosas made another save in the 79th minute when he stopped Bah's chance to give the Toros the lead.  Stan State had one final chance to take the victory in the 83rd minute when Sammy Villanueva's shot sailed high over the crossbar in the 83rd minute as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
