SEASIDE, Calif.--- Despite
Robby Rosas recording nine saves in goal for Stan State this afternoon in Seaside, Calif., the Warriors couldn't overcome an early first half goal by Cal State Monterey Bay's Javier Romero in their 1-0 road loss. The Warriors will finish off their 2022 regular season with a three-match home stand beginning this Friday, October 21 at 7pm when they host No. 8 Cal State Los Angeles.
FIRST HALF: Cal State Monterey Bay (7-5-2, 5-3 CCAA) came out on an offensive surge to begin the match. The Otters had four shot attempts in the first five minutes including one in the sixth minute that was stopped by the Warriors'
Robby Rosas. The hosts capitalized on their offensive push in the 17
th minute when Javier Romero connected on a ball from Colin O'Mahony to give the Otters the 1-0 lead. Stan State had a chance to tie the match in the 32
nd minute, but
Jorge Lara's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Otters' Matthias Milton. The Warriors looked like they were going to tie the match at 1-1 late in the half, but
Sammy Villanueva's shot attempt was blocked by the Otter defense to send the match into the half with CSUMB leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: The Otters recorded the first shot on goal attempt in the 48
th minute of the new stanza, but Rosas snagged Alexis Sanchez's attempt. The Warriors came down the pitch and Villanueva's shot went wide right of the goal. CSUMB had another chance to double its lead, but Rosas stopped Romero's attempt in the 64
th minute Stan State (4-6-5, 1-5-2 CCAA) didn't go away as the Warriors'
Leonardo Muniz-Gallegos had a chance to tie the match but Milton came up with the saves for the hosts in the 79
th minute.
Clayton Crockett had the last chance for the Warriors for the tying goal be stopped in the 88
th minute, but once again the CSUMB keeper came up with the save as the Otters took the 1-0 victory.
ROSAS: Robby Rosas finished the afternoon with nine saves which was a season high for him in goal for Stan State. His previous high was six (three times this season including in Stan State's 1-1 tie at No. 2 CSUDH on Friday). For the season, Rosas has a .779 saves percentage with a 1.08 goals against average including five shutouts.
UP NEXT: Stan State will finish off its 2022 regular season with a three-match home stand beginning this Friday, October 21 at 7pm versus No. 8 Cal State Los Angeles.
