TURLOCK, Calif.---- The seventh ranked Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles improved to 11-1-3 overall and 5-1-3 in the CCAA with a 4-0 win over the Stan State Warriors. Stan State managed three shots on goal this evening with one each coming from
Chase Koptieff,
Josh Santillan and
Sammy Villanueva.
FIRST HALF: Cal State Los Angeles took the 1-0 lead in just the fourth minute when Jeppe Paulsen scored off a ball from Manuel Garcia and Marlon Radel. The Golden Eagles had a chance to double their lead in the 11
th minute when
Robby Rosas made one of his four saves on the evening. Stan State (4-7-5, 1-6-2 CCAA) looked like it was going to tie the match, but Alvaro Uanua stopped
Sammy Villanueva's shot on goal attempt in the 27
th minute. The hosts had another chance with eight minute left in the half, but
Josh Santillan's shot was stopped by the Golden Eagle keeper to send the match into the half with Cal State Los Angeles leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: The Warriors looked like they were going to tie the match early in the second half, but Unanua stopped
Chase Koptieff's attempt to tie the match in the 50
th minute. The Golden Eagles doubled their lead on a goal by Daniel Garcia off a ball from Oliver Diaz in the 56
th minute. They added another goal in the 57
th minute, this time off the foot of Bryan Ortega. They scored their fourth goal in the 65
th minute as Andrew Portis connected on a ball from Paulsen to give the Golden Eagles a 4-0 lead. Stan State's Finn Hoffman's shot to cut into the deficit was stopped by the CSULA defense in the 65
th minute. The Golden Eagles had a chance for their fifth goal be stopped by Rosas in the 85
th minute as the visitors took the 4-0 victory.
UP NEXT: Stan State will host No. 13 Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, October 23 at 11:30am. Cal Poly Pomona defeated Cal State East Bay 4-0 this evening in Hayward.
