TURLOCK, Calif.---- Stan State was trailing 1-0 with seven minutes left in the match when the No. 13 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos (11-1-4, 6-0-3 CCAA) for a foul outside the box and
Sammy Villanueva connected on the free kick to tie the match at 1-1.
Robby Rosas finished the afternoon with six saves in goal for the Warriors.
FIRST HALF: Cal Poly Pomona recorded the first shot attempt of the match in the seventh minute when Paul Henschke's shot went wide left on the goal. With 14 minutes left in the half,
Robby Rosas recorded one of his six saves stopping Melvin Leon's shot on goal attempt. One minute later, Pele Martinez gave the Broncos the 12-0 lead on a ball from Henschke. The Broncos had three more attempts to double their lead, but the Warrior defense blocked all three to send the match into the half with CPP leading 1-
SECOND HALF: The Broncos continued their scoring threats early in the second half including in the 64
th minute when Rosas stopped Mads Fredericksen's shot on goal attempt. Stan State's first shot on goal attempt came in the 72
nd minute when CJ Walker stopped
Tyler Tipton's attempt to tie the match for the Warriors. Stan State (4-7-5, 1-6-2 CCAA) saw another to tie the match be stopped by Walker in the 80
th minute, this time off the foot of
Josh Santillan. The Broncos were called for a foul in the 84
th minute and the Warriors made the visitors pay as
Sammy Villanueva connected on the free kick. Stan State had three chances to take the lead but could not get the ball in the back of the net including one with three seconds left when
Finn Hoffmann's shot was blocked by the Pomona defense. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
