CARSON, Calif.---- Stan State started its final road trip of the regular season with a 3-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills at Toro Stadium in Carson, Calif., this evening.
Jackzeny Mancilla,
Alexis Brewah and
Arionna Imhoff scored for Stan State (6-3-4, 3-2-2 CCAA). Brewah along with
Marivic Lek-Miro and
Haylee Heffner each had assists for the victors.
FIRST HALF: Jackzeny Mancilla scored the Toros' first goal in the eighth minute on a ball from
Marivic Lek-Miro to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Alexis Brewah had two chances to double the Warriors' lead in the 14
th minute but The Toros' Alyssa Newsome stopped both shot on goal attempts.
Alexia Estrada recorded her first of six saves on the evening when she stopped Lucia Yanez's shot on goal attempt in the 26
th minute. Cal State Dominguez Hills (0-10-4, 0-5-2 CCAA) tied the match at 1-1 when Sarah Martinez connected on a ball from Kekoa Nelson in the 28
th minute. Brewah connected on her team high ninth goal of the season in the 36
th minute to give the Warriors the 2-1 lead. Estrada made another save in the 44
th minute to send the match into the half with Stan State leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: The Warriors' keeper made two more key saves just 11 minutes into the new half to keep the match with the visitors leading 2-1. Brewah had another chance for a goal in the 56
th minute, but Newsom stopped her shot on goal attempts.
Sabrina Cabrera saw her chance to increase the guests' lead go wide right in the 66
th minute. The Warriors increased their lead to 3-1 on a goal by
Arionna Imhoff off a ball from
Haylee Heffner and Brewah in the 73
rd minute. The Toros had a chance to cut into the Warrior lead in the 85
th minute, but Estrada made her sixth and final save of the evening as Stan State took the 3-1 victory.
THREE-WAY TIE FOR FIFTH PLACE: With their win this evening, Stan State moves into a three-way tie for fifth place with Cal State San Bernardino and Chico State. The Warriors are just two points out of fifth place which is currently held by Cal State Los Angeles, Sonoma State San Marcos, and Cal Poly Pomona. The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a berth to the CCAA Championships.
BREWAH: Alexis Brewah played a part of two of the Warriors' three goals in their 3-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills. She scored her team leading ninth goal in the 36
th minute to give the Warriors a 2-1. In the 73
rd minute, she assisted along with
Haylee Heffner on
Arionna Imhoff's second goal of the season. That was Brewah's team leading sixth assist of the season.
UP NEXT: Stan State will have its final road match of the regular season this Sunday, October 16 when the Warriors travel to Seaside, Calif., to face Cal State Monterey Bay. The Otters are currently taking on Cal State East Bay this evening in Seaside.
