Early Warrior Scoring Run Not Enough in 4-2 Loss to Sonoma State

TURLOCK, Calif.----  Stan State scored two goals in the first 23 minutes of the match, but that wasn't enough as Sonoma State (7-3, 3-1 CCAA) scored four unanswered goals in its 4-2 win at Warrior Field in Turlock.  Sabrina Cabrera scored Stan State's first goal on a ball from Alexis Brewah in the ninth minute.  Brewah connected on the hosts' second goal for her team leading eighth goal of the season.

FIRST HALF:  The Warriors took the early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute as Sabrina Cabrera connected for her fourth goal of the season off a ball from Alexis Brewah.  Sonoma State had a chance to tie the match at 1-1 in the 16th minute when Malia Falk's shot sailed wide right.  Stan State (5-3-2, 2-2) doubled its lead on Brewah's team leading eighth goal of the season.  Alexia Estrada recorded her first of 14 saves on the afternoon stopping Lexi Zandonella-Arasa's shot on goal attempt in the 24th minute keeping the Seawolves off the board.  Sonoma State cut the Warrior lead in half in the 42nd minute as Krissy Keller scored an unassisted goal to send the match into the half with Stan State leading 1-0.

SECOND HALF:  Stan State had a chance to increase its lead in the 48th minute when Rylie Stiglich's shot went high over the crossbar.  The Seawolves tied the match at 2-2 in the 50th minute when Zandonella-Arasa connected on the first of two goals.  Zandonella-Arasa scored her second goal of the match and tenth of the season to give SSU a 3-2 lead in the 54th minute.  Sonoma State increased its lead to 4-2 in the 71st minute when Ashley Frye connected on a ball from Zandonella-Arasa.  The Warriors had a chance to cut into the lead in the 82nd but both Jordyn Silva and Alisha Garcia's shots were blocked by the Seawolf defense as the guests took the 4-2 victory.

8/5:  Alexis Brewah scored her team leading eighth goal of the season and had her team leading fifth assist of the season. Stan State's other goal came from Sabrina Cabrera who scored her fourth goal of the season.

NEXT WEEK:  The Warriors will return to the pitch this Thursday, October 6 in Arcata when they face Cal Poly Humboldt at 3pm.  They will return home when Stan State hosts Chico State at Warrior Field on Sunday, October 9 at 2pm.
