ARCATA, Calif.--- The visiting Stan State Warriors (5-3-3, 2-2-1 CCAA) were trailing Cal Poly Humboldt 1-0 until the 64
th minute when
Jackzeny Mancilla scored her second goal as a Warrior off a ball from
Taylor Lucas. The Warriors will return to the pitch this Sunday, October 9 at 2pm when they host Chico State at Warrior Stadium.
FIRST HALF: Stan State had the match's first chance for the lead just 13 seconds into it when
Jackzeny Mancilla's shot was stopped by Humboldt's Carson Thomson-Terrel. Cal Poly Humboldt (4-3-4, 1-1-3 CCAA) saw its first chance for a goal be stopped in the 12
th minute when Emma McChristie's shot on goal was stopped by the Warriors'
Alexia Estrada. The Jacks took the 1-0 lead not even 40 seconds later when Erin Mohr scored from almost mid-field. The Warriors had a chance to tie the match at 1-1 when
Sabrina Cabrera's shot was stopped by the Jack keeper in the 37
th minute. Right before the half ended, Cabrera had another chance to tie the match, but Thomson-Terrel recorded one of her seven saves on the day to send the match into the half with Humboldt leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: Kelsey Bess looked like she was going to double the hosts' lead, but her shot sailed left of the goal in the 53
rd minute. The Warriors had a chance to tie the match again in the 62
nd minute when
Taylor Lucas' shot was stopped by Thomson-Terrel. They had another chance one minute later, but
Daisy Martinez shot was stopped. The Jacks tried to clear the ball, but Lucas stole the ball and passed it to Mancilla to tie the match at 1-1 in the 64
th minute. With 15 minutes left in the match, Cabrera saw her third chance to give the Warriors the lead be stopped by the Jack keeper. The Jacks had three chances to take the lead in the 78
th minute, but Estrada saved two and one sailed right of the net. With 11 minutes left, Lucas had a chance to be the savior for Stan State when Thomson-Terrel stopped her attempt. Emilie Wallin had the final shot on goal attempt for both teams be stopped with nine minutes left by Estrada as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
NUMBER TWO: Jackzeny Mancilla scored her second goal of the season this afternoon. Her first goal came in Stan State's 2-0 win at Cal State Sam Marcos on Sept. 25.
Taylor Lucas had her second assist of the season today in Arcata. Her first came on Sept. 3 in the Warriors' 2-0 win over Biola.
9-7: Stan State held a 9-7 advantage in shot on goal attempts this afternoon over Humboldt.
Sabrina Cabrera had three of them while
Taylor Lucas and
Jackzeny Mancilla each had two.
Daisy Martinez had the other shot on goal attempt for the Warriors.
7-3: The Warriors also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will return home to Warrior Field this Sunday, October 9 at 2pm when they host Chico State. The Wildcats will host Cal State East Bay later this evening.
