Stan State Scorches the Stat Sheet at Cal State San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Five sets is what it took for the Warriors to take down the Cougars in their second meeting of the season. The team erupted for one of their best stat lines of the year, finishing the match 3-2.
 
Autumn Kirby, Ellison Weaver, and Macky Morris got things rolling for Stanislaus State early on to pull off the opening set win 25-20. Cassie Corbett, Alex Byrd, Mariah Iosua, Kirby, and Weaver also joined forces to to collect five total blocks in the opener. Weaver would go on to lead the offensive charge, finishing with 16 kills on the day.
 
Set two posed a bit of a struggle for the Warriors, who couldn't manage to close things out down the stretch. On the flip side, Haley Burdo and Eyriana Eatmon did a solid job to help facilitate for their hitters as Byrd got hot, finishing the match with 10 kills. Burdo had another big time assist performance with 31, while Eatmon finished with 16.
 
The Warriors took back the momentum in the third, as Penelope Zepeda saw some action to finish with seven kills. Stan State went on a nine-point run to go up 20-10, and would win the set 25-20 to go up 2-1.
 
Kirby finished the game with a high volume 10 total blocks at the net, including a block assist featuring Morris to start off the fourth set.  Despite the effort, errors from the visiting Warriors evened the match at 2-2 after dropping the fourth set 21-25.
 
Gabby Rawson did all the dirty work at the libero position picking up 31 digs and four assists. She would help lead her team down the wire of set five, rallying a six-point run to lead 6-1 early on. The Warriors put clamps on the Cougars chances, sealing the deal 15-6 to win their second straight match on the road. "That win showed a lot of heart." Coach Lauren Flowers explains. "Our middles this whole week have been able to execute the hard work that they've been putting in. In the end our defense won us that match."
 
The team will be back in action at Monterey Bay on Friday, Oct. 28th at 5pm.
