SEASIDE, Calif. – Stan State didn't have the firepower that they are accustomed to in Friday night's matchup against the Otters, missing five key players ahead of a two-game road trip. Despite the setbacks, the Warriors still managed to take the fourth and final set to 24-26.
Junior Outside Hitter
Faith Menary took the leading role offensively for the team, putting down a team-high 12 kills. Role players like
Isabella Isaia also stepped up big for the group, racking up 21 digs, six assists, and two service aces.
The Warriors dropped the first set 19-25 after a well-rounded effort from all of their hitters to start the match off.
Mariah Iosua and
Ellison Weaver each had two kills to lead the team through the opening set.
Eyriana Eatmon was an assist machine in the second set. She finished the match 16 and was a key contributor to Stan State's 25-19 shake back set win. Eatmon connected on nine of her 16 assists in set two alone.
Tied at 1-1,
Haley Burdo caught her groove in the assist category and the Warriors commanded a majority of the opening rallies in set three. Burdo would finish with 23 assists and two services aces, but the Otters mounted a comeback to take a 23-25 set victory.
With one last shot to take the match to five sets, the two teams traded points the whole way through.
Macky Morris got busy early in the set, while
Cassie Corbett and Weaver did what they could to save the match. Unable to hold on, the Warriors dropped the fourth set 24-26.
Next on the list is the team's final away match of the regular season on Saturday Oct. 29
