Warriors Fall Short in Final Rallies Against the Gators

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Stan State did everything they could to stay afloat in the fourth and final set of their 1-3 loss on the road, but it was simply not enough to take SF State to five sets in their Saturday night matchup.

In light of the Warriors' struggles, Haley Burdo managed to match her career-high assists with 32, while Faith Menary spun back for another team-high 13 kills to go along with three service aces.

Macky Morris got back in the swing of things in this match, finishing with 11 kills. She got off to a solid start, scoring on a handful of Warrior points and even an assist in the first set. Eyriana Eatmon also made a difference right off the bench with a service ace; she would later finish the match with two for the night. The opening set would stay close, but finish 20-25.

In set two, the team managed to capitalize on Gator mistakes. Cassie Corbett, Menary, and Morris would each do their part offensively to help even the score to 1-1 after winning the second set 25-21.

Ellison Weaver came alive in the third, scoring on four of the Warriors' kills early on. Menary and Morris would also combine for a block assist to tie things up 10-10 halfway through the set. Errors from visiting Stan State would come back to haunt them, dropping the set 21-25.

An early solo block from Alex Byrd got the ball rolling for the Warriors, who kept the margin under four points the whole way through. Up 24-21 on the back end of set four, three crucial kills from the Gators helped up the score to 24-24. The two teams would exchange points and errors alike, but two final attack attempts from SF State sealed the deal on a 28-30 final set score.

Stanislaus State will make their way back home for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 5th at 2pm against CCAA title holders Cal State LA. Before that match, the team will see Dominguez Hills on Friday, Nov. 4th at 5pm.
