Warriors Volleyball Keeps CCAA Hopes Alive Over the Toros

TURLOCK, Calif. – Third time's the charm as Stan State gets win #3 over Cal State Dominguez Hills at the Fitz in a Friday night showdown. The team was able to reload some of their key players after last weekend's short-handed roster and brightened their CCAA playoff hopes in the process.

Faith Menary led all hitters with 12 kills on the evening, while Haley Burdo erupted for another 20+ assists match with 23 for the night.

The opening set took the Toros by surprise after losing their first four points to two Burdo assists, an Autumn Kirby-Macky Morris block, and a Burdo service ace. From then on, Faith Menary led the team with five kills in the set. Stan State would go up 1-0 after taking the opener 25-18.

Set two saw some slight resistance from Dominguez Hills, as Eyriana Eatmon and Ellison Weaver came alive early on. Eatmon picked up back-to-back service aces and even snuck a kill of her own into the mix. Meanwhile, Weaver beat four kills in the ground to lead her team in the second set. Eatmon would go on the finish with 14 assists for the match and Weaver would end with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs. They would take the second set 25-12.

With a chance to sweep the match, the Warriors woke the Toros up in the third, as Dominguez Hills commanded the lead in the opening rallies. Bella Isaia filled the shoes at libero for the match and dove for 13 digs. Burdo helped Isaia's efforts with 11 digs of her own. After tying things up 9-9, the home squad took back the reigns to pull away 25-18.

This win and a San Francisco State loss helps the Warriors' chances at clinching a playoff berth. Final results from tomorrow's matches, that could potentially be decided by point differentials, will make things interesting for the Warriors. They face CCAA #1 seed Cal State LA tomorrow, Oct. 4th at 2pm for Senior Day.
