Chico State Makes Most of Opportunities as Warriors Fall 2-0

TURLOCK, Calif.----  The visiting Chico State Wildcats had just two shots on goal attempts and connected on both of them in their 2-0 win over the Stanislaus State Warriors.  Each team had 12 shot attempts with the Warriors holding a 5-2 advantage in shot on goal attempts. 

FIRST HALF:  Stan State (4-5-4, 1-4-1 CCAA) had three attempts early in the match to take the 1-0 lead, but all either went wide of the goal or was blocked.  Two of them came from Chase Koptieff and one from Clayton Crockett.  Luis Albarran made one of his five saves on the day stopping Jose Lara's shot on goal attempt in the tenth minute.  One minute later, Sammy Villanueva saw his attempt to give Stan State the early lead goes right of the net.  In the 17th minute, Chico State was fouled in the box and Adrian Fontanelli connected on the penalty kick to give Chico the 1-0 lead.  Stan State had a chance to tie the match, but Antonio Garcinuno-Ortiz's shot went wide left of the goal in the 25th minute.  The Warriors had two more chances late in the half for the tying goal, but Albarran stopped Finn Hoffman and Gerardo Delgadillo's shot on goal attempt.  The match went into the half with Chico State (6-3-4, 3-1-2 CCAA) leading 1-0.

SECOND HALF:   Chico State doubled its lead as Noah Rosas connected on a ball from Preston Moll and Adrian Fontanelli in the 46th minute.  Stan State had a chance to cut into the half, but Bryan Manriquez's shot went wide left of the goal in the 70th minute.  Colby Allard had a chance for a goal in the 75th minute when the Wildcat defense. Hoffman had a late chance for a goal, but Albarran stopped his shot on goal attempt in the final seconds as Chico took the 2-0 victory. 

12-12:  Each team had 12 shot attempts with Finn Hoffman and Jorge Lara each with two shots on goal attempts.  Gerardo Delgadillo had two shot attempts including one on goal.

UP NEXT: Stan State travels to Carson, Calif., to face No. 4 Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, October 14 at 7pm. The Warriors will return home on Friday, October 21 at 7pm when they host No. 12 Cal State Los Angeles.
