NAMPA, Idaho. – The Warriors couldn't manage to win their season opener of a two-day road slate to start off the weekend. Freshman guard
Makayla Jackson and Senior guard
Liliana Marques both combined for 25 points in the eight-point loss.
FIRST QUARTER: Stanislaus State had a tough time from beyond the arc to begin the game, connecting on just one of their eight three-point attempts in the first. Senior
Da'Myiah Lewis got the offense flowing early with a few timely buckets. However, the team managed to hit a dry spell at the halfway point of the first quarter that was finally fixed with a Marques triple to take bring the Warriors within two points at 12-14 to end the period.
SECOND QUARTER: Three early turnovers got the Warriors off to a slow start until Freshman guard
Alexis Woodson got two buckets to go in the paint. Sophomore Forward
Joia Armstrong got going in the second quarter and would go on to finish with eight points for the game on 6-7 free-throw shooting. Stan State would end the first half down 25-38.
THIRD QUARTER: Jackson got hot early in the second half, connecting on eight straight Warriors points, finishing with a team-high 13. The true freshman shot an efficient 45.5% from the field in her first collegiate game and split her four attempts at the foul line.
FOURTH QUARTER: Down 40-44, Marques opened up the final quarter with a big three to bring the deficit back within one point. However, the Nighthawks answered right back with a three-pointer of their own. Woodson did what she could inside the paint to keep the score close, but some timely misses from the Warriors' offense opened the door for a Northwest Nazarene run to end the game 63-55.
The Warriors bounce back fast with another road game tomorrow afternoon at 1:30pm PST against Central Washington University.
