TURLOCK, Calif.---- The visiting Dominican Penguins shot 52% from the field including 54.5% from three-point land to key their 72-61 win over Stan State this evening in a non-conference contest at Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock, Calif. Will Pallesi had a career high 20 points off the bench to lead the way for the Warriors. Tony Singleton chipped in 17 points for Stan State while Marlon Short added 10 points.
FIRST HALF: The first five minutes were even until Dominican (2-1) built a seven-point lead (14-7) on a PJ Volz jumper. A Garrett Seibels jumper with 8:26 increased the Penguins' lead to double digits (22-12). The continued to hold a double-digit lead, 28-18) with a little less than five minutes left in the first stanza. Will Pallesi's three capped an 8-0 run by the Warriors to cut the deficit to 28-26 with just two minutes left in the half. Dominican increased its lead to five (33-28) on a dunk by Jordan Josephs. A Kobe Ordonio jumper made the score, 33-30 visitors heading into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: The Penguins came out of the locker room on fire as they outscored Stan State (1-2) 11-0 in the first three minutes of the new stanza to take a 44-30 lead. A three by Tony Singleton off a pass from Benno Zecic cut the guests' lead to 49-40 at the 13:47 mark of the second half. Dominican increased its lead to 56-43 at the mid-way mark of the second half. Another trey by Singleton off a pass from Zecic cut the Stan State deficit to 66-59 with a little over three minutes left in regulation. The Penguins scored the next six points to take a 72-59 lead with less than a minute on the clock. A jumper by Marlon Short made the final 72-61 Dominican.
CAREER HIGH: Will Pallesi scored a career high 20 points off the bench in 32 minutes for the Warriors. He went seven-for-fourteen from the field including connecting on three of his nine attempts from three-point land. Pallesi was three-for-four from the line while dishing out one assist, recording one steal and grabbing one rebound.
A TRIO IN DOUBLE FIGURES: Besides Will Pallesi's 20 points, Tony Singleton chipped in 17 points and Marlon Short added 10 points for the Warriors. Singleton went six-for-eleven from the field and five-for-nine from three-point land while Short was five-for-nine from the field.
23-6: Stan State's bench outscored the Penguins 23-6 including 20 points from Will Pallesi. Isaiah Jones chipped in three for the Warrior bench.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will travel to Rohnert Park, Calif., to participate in the Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge, presented by Cambria Hotel Sonoma Wine Country, on the campus of Sonoma State, November 18-19. They will face Western Oregon on November 18 at 5pm and Minnesota State on November 19 at 2pm. Stan State will return home one week from this evening, November 22 at 5pm when the Warriors host Academy of Art before beginning their CCAA season on Saturday, November 26 at 3pm at Chico State.
