LAST GAME: The Warriors took a road trip to Reno to take on Nevada for a Sunday afternoon exhibition. The team took a tough loss to a bigger and more physical Wolf Pack team, but hope to repeat their prior performances as they return to the Fitz on Tuesday.
UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: Stan State went 2-0 over the past weekend, going undefeated in both games of the Warrior Classic against Holy Names and Academy of Art.
Liliana Marques earned MVP honors and was named to the All-Tournament team along with her teammate
Da'Myiah Lewis. Their record now sits at 2-2 overall.
AMONGST THE CCAA LEADERS: Defensively, the Warriors are currently 3
rd in the conference in opponent field goal percentage, containing teams to 35.6% shooting so far this year. They are also 4
th in blocks and 2
nd in steals. The team will have to hang their hats on solid defense until they get into an offensive flow. Marques is currently averaging 10.0 ppg, putting her 18
th in the CCAA and
Alexis Woodson and
Joia Armstrong are both averaging 5.5 rebounds per game, which is top-20 in the conference. Lewis is the second-best free-throw shooter in the CCAA at 84.6% from the line.
FRESNO PACIFIC: The Sunbirds have gotten off to a 4-1 start to begin the season. They secured wins over two CCAA teams in Chico State and Sonoma State but lost a close one-point game to Monterey Bay. FPU won't "wow" you offensively, but they are a solid free-throw shooting team who keeps their turnovers down. Their Sophomore guard Jenna Kurz is the leading scorer for the Sunbirds at 10.0 ppg. All of her buckets have come from inside the arc this season as she hasn't attempted a three-pointer at all this year.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Since 2014, the Warriors are undefeated against FPU, winning all five games they've played. Their most recent win was a nine-point victory a year ago on the road.
CHICO STATE: The Wildcats are 2-2 heading into their game with the Warriors. Both teams are evenly matched on the offensive side, but Stanislaus State has forced more turnovers, steals, and blocks in their first four games. Senior forward Haley Ison is averaging 12.3 ppg with efficient true shooting percentages all-around this season.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Warriors are 10-17 against Chico State since 2007. They split their season series last year, winning on their respective home courts.
