Stan State Snaps Urban Knights’ Winning Streak in 75-69 Victory

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State Warriors snapped the visiting Academy of Art Urban Knights' winning streak at four with a 75-69 coast-to-coast victory at Fitzpatrick Arena this evening.  Marlon Short recorded his fourth career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Warriors.  Kobe Ordonio had 17 points including going eight-for-ten from the charity stripe while Noel Alexander Jr. had a season high 10 points and six rebounds off the bench for Stan State. 

FIRST HALF: The Warriors jumped out to a 15-4 lead capped by a three by Kobe Ordonio off one of Benno Zecic's career high 11 assists in the first five minutes of the game.  Academy of Art (4-1) went on a mini 5-0 run to cut the hosts' lead to 15-9.  Stan State increased its lead back to double digits (19-9) on a jumper by Ordonio off another Zecic assist.  Stan State (2-4) increased its lead to 22-10 on a free throw by Noel Alexander Jr. with eight minutes left in the half.  Academy of Art outscored the Warriors 19-10 to cut the deficit to 32-29 with just twenty-three seconds left in the first half.  An Alexander lay-up off an assist from Ordonio gave the hosts a 34-29 heading into the locker room.

SECOND HALF: The Urban Knights started the new half outscoring their hosts 8-5 to cut their deficit to 39-37 on a lay-up by Klay Brown.  The Warriors came right back and increased their lead to 56-48 on a three by Zecic off an assist by Daniel Ameyaw with nine minutes left in regulation.  Academy of Art came right back and decreased the Stan State lead to 56-53 with 7:38 on the clock.  A fast break lay-up by Zecic off a steal by Marlon Short and a pass from Alexander increased the Warrior lead back nine (62-53) with just 5:41 to go in the game.

In the next two minutes, Academy of Art went on a 11-0 run to cut the Stan State lead to just 64-62 at the 3:23 mark of the second half.  The Warriors came back with a 7-0 run of their own keyed by Ordonio going four-for-four from the line to take a 71-62 lead with 76 seconds left in regulation.  The Urban Knights cut Stan State's lead to 71-66 with 32 seconds to go, but the Warriors finished the game each going four-for-four from the line with Short and Ordonio going two-for-two from the charity stripe as they took the 75-69 victory.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Marlon Short recorded fourth double-double of his career and first of the season this evening.  He scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while recording five steals.  He went eight-for-13 from the field including connecting on one trey and going four-for-four from the line.

11 ASSISTS: Benno Zecic had a career high 11 assists with just three turnovers in 35 minutes of action.  He also grabbed five rebounds.

ONCE AGAIN THREE IN DOUBLE DIGITS: The Warriors once again had three players in double digits this evening led by Marlon Short's 21 points.  Kobe Ordonio added 17 points while Noel Alexander Jr. had a season high 10 points.

BLOCK THAT SHOT AND FORCE THAT TURNOVER:  Noel Alexander Jr. had a season high four blocked shots this evening.  Stan State forced 18 turnovers by the Urban Knights including ten steals.  Of those ten steals, five came from Marlon Short

SNAP THAT STREAK: With the win this evening, Stan State snapped two streaks.  The first one was its three-game losing streak. The second one was Academy of Art, who was receiving votes in the NABC national poll, four-game winning streak.

UP NEXT: Stan State will begin CCAA play this Saturday, November 26 at 3pm, when the Warriors travel to Chico to face Chico State.
