CHICO, Calif.--- Chico State used a 10-0 run mid-way through the second half to key its 64-55 win over the visiting Stan State Warriors this afternoon in both teams' conference opener.
Marlon Short paced the Warriors with his second consecutive double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Benno Zecic added 12 points while Noel Alexander, Jr. chipped in 10 points for Stan State.
FIRST HALF: Chico State (2-3, 1-0 CCAA) scored the first five points of the game in the first four minutes. Two minutes later,
Marlon Short's jumper gave the Warriors a 10-9 lead. The next couple of minutes until the hosts took a 25-19 lead on a jumper by Isaiah Holm with a little under six minutes left in the first stanza. A Short made free throw cut Stan State's deficit to 25-22 with 2:39 on the clock. A lay-up by Miles Daniels capped a 6-0 run to end the half for the Wildcats as they took a 31-22 lead into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: The Wildcats kept their momentum going early in the second half as they increased their lead to 38-25 on a Hamilton lay-up. A three-pointer by
Benno Zecic off a pass from Short capped 11-0 run by the Warriors as they cut their deficit to 38-36 at the 13:17 mark of the second half. A JoJo Murphy fast-break lay-up gave Chico State a 42-38 lead. Stan State (2-5, 0-1 CCAA) cut the Wildcat lead to 42-40 on a jumper by Alexander off a pass from Zecic. Chico State followed that with a 10-0 run to take a 52-40 with just seven minutes left in regulation. A Hamilton jumper increased the hosts' lead to 62-49 with just 93 seconds left on the clock. Stan State didn't go away as the Warriors cut the Wildcat to single digits (62-55) on a three by Short off an assist from
Will Pallesi, but it was a little too late as the Wildcats took the 64-55 CCAA opener.
FIFTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Marlon Short recorded his fifth double-double of his young career at Stan State this afternoon with 16 points and 10 rebounds. This was his second consecutive one this season. He finished the afternoon shooting six-for-16 from the field including connecting on a three-pointer and three-for-five from the line.
TRIO OF DOUBLE-DIGIT SCORERS: For the sixth time this season, Stan State had at least three players scoring in double digits.
Marlon Short paced the Warriors with 16 points followed by

Kobe Ordonio with 11 points.
Noel Alexander Jr. added 10 points off the bench for the Warriors.
UP NEXT: Stan State will return home this week for its only two home games of December. The Warriors will entertain defending CCAA Champions, Cal State San Marcos, this Thursday, December 1 at 7:30pm. Then on Saturday, December 3 at 3pm, Stan State will host Cal State Los Angeles at The Fitz.
