Warriors Can't Sway a Commanding Chico State Lead On the Road

TURLOCK, Calif. – Unable to command any convincing leads against the Wildcats, Stan State falls to 3-3 after their first matchup against Chico State this season.

Makayla Rose finished the game with a team-high 22 points to go with her five rebounds and four steals. The Warriors had four players in double-figures and shot a modest 38.6% from the field and 40.0% from three but struggled at the free-throw line on 52.6% shooting.

FIRST QUARTER: Da'Myiah Lewis got going early, pouring in five points, two rebounds, and one assist in the opening period against the Wildcats. Makayla Rose put up seven quick points of her own to trail 20-18 at the buzzer.

SECOND QUARTER: The Warriors couldn't manage to secure any lead changes in the second quarter, tying with Chico on three occasions throughout. Joia Armstrong, who finished with 14 points on 6 of 16 shooting, added a block to her stat line to help keep the lead within three. Armstrong would go on to finish the game with five rebounds. Chico State shot a very efficient 43.3% from the field and 46.3% from deep in the first half to establish a 36-33 lead.

THIRD QUARTER: After an early technical foul from the Warriors' sideline four minutes into the second half, the team went on a run that put them up as much as nine points. After Armstrong and Rose got going with some big shots at the halfway point of the period, Stanislaus State took the lead at 52-51. The Wildcats managed to pick things back up offensively to take a 63-57 lead going into the final quarter of play.

FOURTH QUARTER: The Warriors deficit started to increase after a two-minute scoring drought set the Warriors back with only a few minutes left in regulation. Late foul trouble for Liliana Marques and Armstrong forced the team into some late substitutions. Alexis Woodson, who finished with 10 points on 2 of 3 shooting from behind the arc, hit a her final three-ball late in the fourth to put four Warriors in the double digit scoring column for the night.

SHOOTING STRUGGLES: Shooting a rough 52.6% from the stripe, Stan State's early struggles from the line saw gradual improvement after going 1-6 in the first quarter. Even though the team went 5-20 from the field in the final quarter of play, they were only outscored by eight points.
