TURLOCK, Calif. – The Warriors did what they could against a solid Cal State San Marcos team, who is currently ranked 19th in the country. Stan State had three players in double-figures on the night in
Makayla Rose, DaMyiah Lewis, and
Liliana Marques who combined for 48 of the team's 59 points.
FIRST QUARTER: Rose and Lewis were the team's lone scorers in the first quarter of play after struggling to keep up with solid ball movement from the Cougars. Getting off to an early 21-8 lead, Cal State San Marcos asserted themselves on the scoreboard early on.
SECOND QUARTER: Again taking the reigns in the second period, Rose and Lewis would continue carrying the offense scoring load. Rose would go on to finish with a game high 18 points to go with nine rebounds and four steals. Lewis would finish with 17 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.
THIRD QUARTER: Down 39-17 at the half, the Warriors turned the tide in the third quarter. Outscoring the Cougars by nine in the period, Lewis and Marques erupted on offense to give the home team some much needed life. Marques would score all 13 of her points in the second half, to bring the game within 13 points heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
FOURTH QUARTER: Two big three-pointers from
Alexis Woodson and Rose got things going in the fourth, bringing the deficit to 57-52. Solid free-throw shooting down the stretch from the Cougars would settle the late Stan State comeback to a 70-59 final score.
20 FORCED TURNOVERS: The Warriors continued to show their pesky defensive prowess, forcing 20 turnovers on the night. Stanislaus State would finish with 10 team steals.
Stan State heads back on the road next week at Sonoma State on Thursday, Dec. 8
th at 5:30pm and over to Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday, Dec. 10
th at 5:30pm.
