TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State picked up its first CCAA victory of the season this afternoon in the Warriors' 73-69 win over the visiting Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles.
Kobe Ordonio tied his season high with 23 points to lead the way for the victors.
Marlon Short chipped in 16 points while
Will Pallesi added 13 points.
Travion Williams grabbed 11 of the Warriors' 30 rebounds and
Benno Zecic had nine of Stan State's 19 assists.
FIRST HALF: Stan State (3-6, 1-2 CCAA) jumped out to a 16-5 lead in thanks to
Kobe Ordonio who scored the Warriors' first eleven points of the game. Cal State Los Angeles went on a 15-4 run to tie the game at 20-20 at the 10:26 mark of the first half. The Golden Eagles continued their run and took a 27-22 lead with 7:50 left in the half on two free throws by Adrease Jackson. A
Travion Williams made free throw capped a 12-2 run by the Warriors as they took a 34-29 lead. Stan State increased its lead to 39-31 with just 2:18 left in the half on a
Marlon Short jumper off a pass from Williams. The Golden Eagles finished the half on an 8-1 run to take a 40-39 lead into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: Payton Moore's jumper increased the visitors' lead to 45-41 just four minutes into the second half. Stan State outscored the Golden Eagles 14-8 in the next five minutes to take a 54-53 lead. Cal State Los Angeles retook the lead for the final time of the game, 57-56, with 9:50 left in regulation on a jumper by Moore. A Short lay-up capped a 11-2 run by the Warriors as they took a 67-59 lead with a little over seven minutes to go in the game. An Alexander Sokol three cut the deficit to 69-67 for the visitors at the 3:52 mark of the half. Stan State scored on its next two possession on a jumper by
Will Pallesi and a dunk by Short to give the hosts a 73-67 lead. The Golden Eagles could only score just two points in the final minutes as Stan State took the 73-69 victory.
UP NEXT: Stan State will return home this week for its only two home games of December. The Warriors will entertain defending CCAA Champions, Cal State San Marcos, this Thursday, December 1 at 7:30pm. Then on Saturday, December 3 at 3pm, Stan State will host Cal State Los Angeles at The Fitz.
51.9%: The Warriors shot 51.9% from the field this evening and 38.5% from three-point land. They went 28 for 54 from the field and 10 for 26 from beyond the arc. Leading the way was
Kobe Ordonio who went seven-for-12 the field and five-for-eight from three-point land.
Marlon Short was nine-for-17,
Will Pallesi was five-for-11,
Travion Williams was two-for-four and
Matt Bender two-for-two.
Jeremiah Jones and Noah Alexander Jr. each were one-for-two.
BATTLE OF THE BOARDS: Stan State won the battle of the boards this evening, 30-25, led by
Travion Williams' 11 rebounds.
Kobe Ordonio had five rebounds and
Benno Zecic grabbed four boards for the victors.
ONCE AGAIN: For the eighth time in nine games, Stan State had at least three players score in double figures led by
Kobe Ordonio season high 23 points.
Marlon Short added 16 points and
Will Pallesi scored 13 points for the Warriors.
19 ASSISTS ON 28 BASKETS: The Warriors had 19 assists on their 28 made baskets led by
Benno Zecic's nine.
Travion Williams added four assists and
Kobe Ordonio had three.
Marlon Short,
Jeremiah Jones and
Matt Bender each had one.
WHAT A LINE: Travion Williams scored six points, but he grabbed a season high 11 rebounds. He also dished out four assists and recorded three steals in the Warrior victory.
UP NEXT: Stan State will be back on the road for a pair of games in Northern California. The Warriors will face Sonoma State on Thursday, December 8 in Rohnert Park and Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday, December 10. Tip-off for both evenings is for 7:30pm.
