ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Warriors had four players score in double figures during their Thursday night battle at Sonoma State on the road. With
Joia Armstrong,
Da'Myiah Lewis,
Liliana Marques, and
Makayla Rose all combining for 57 points as a part of the starting lineup, their scoring output was not enough against the Seawolves in the final stretch of the fourth quarter.
FIRST QUARTER: A slow start by both teams paired with some early foul trouble and substitutions from the Stan State bench sparked off the opening quarter of play. The Warriors saw a bulk of their scoring come from the free throw line and their bench players early on, as
Ashley Lewis saw her first action of the season going 1-1 on her lone attempt from the field.
Ashmeen Sran also chipped in a late three-pointer from Marques heading into the second quarter tied 24-24.
SECOND QUARTER: The visiting Warriors shot an even 50.0% from the field in the second period that helped them stay within arm's reach of the Seawolves throughout.
Iman Addison and
Alexis Woodson chipped in a field goal each to help the offensive scoring from Rose and Marques to carry the team into the second half only down six points.
THIRD QUARTER: In another 50.0% shooting quarter, Armstrong got going early in the second half to finish with a team-high 17 points. Rose swiped back-to-back steals on the full court press, converting them into layups on the other end. She would finish the night with 16 points and a career-high six steals. Down 52-54 heading into the fourth, the Warriors needed one final push to surmise a comeback win.
FOURTH QUARTER: The team's leading scorers in Marques and Armstrong took over the offense in the final ten minutes of play. After back-to-back Armstrong buckets put the Warriors up two, a costly foul on a Seawolves jump shot attempt helped put Sonoma State in position to take the victory 71-72.
UP NEXT: Next up for the Warriors is another CCAA road game at Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday, Dec. 10
th at 1pm.
