SAN BERNARDINO — First place Cal State San Bernardino used another big inning Sunday for the third game in a row to blow open a close contest, as it clinched a California Collegiate Athletic Association series victory with an 11-2 win at Fiscalini Field.
Â
Matt Elser homered for the second time in the series to give the Warriors (7-10, 5-7 CCAA) an early 2-0 lead. The Coyotes (13-9, 9-3 CCAA) slowly chipped away at that lead, eventually taking a 5-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Then in the eighth, CSUSB pulled away for good with runs on a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly, an RBI double, and then a big three-run home run from Kyle Csakan to make it a six-run inning and an 11-2 advantage.
Â
Elser finished 2 for 4 with a double, home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Csakan knocked in four runs four CSUSB, while Deshawn Johnson went 4 for 4 with three runs scored, a home run, a double, a stolen base and an RBI.
