Warriors Swept in Series-Opening Doubleheader

SAN BERNARDINO — Karli DalBianco and Cherise Mori had hits in both games Friday for the Stanislaus State softball team, but it was host Cal State San Bernardino who grabbed a series advantage with a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader sweep, winning game one, 4-0, and game two, 10-2, at CSUSB Softball Park.

DalBianco and Mori both went 1 for 3 in each game. Katie Thornsberry had the Warriors' (6-17, 4-14 CCAA) lone multi-hit game of the day, going 2 for 3 in the nightcap.

Five different players posted multi-hit games for Cal State San Bernardino (10-15, 6-12 CCAA) throughout the twin bill. Shannon Galliano and Tereise Tosi went a combined 4-for-7 with four runs scored and two RBIs in game two.

GAME ONE

Though the opener ended in a 4-0 shutout, the game was much closer than the final score indicated. The Warriors and Coyotes were tied at 0-0 through 5 1/2 innings, locked in a pitchers' duel between Stan State ace Delaney Pamplin (4-6) and two pitchers from CSUSB.

Pamplin posted two 1-2-3 innings and stranded four runners in scoring position during three other innings through the game's first five frames. She did not allow a free pass – walk or hit-by-pitch – all game, in her sixth complete-game effort of the season.

Cal State San Bernardino finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth. Four consecutive singles to start the inning got the first runs on the board. Alyssa Martinez singled home two runs, Kaylee Williamson made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly, and Martinez scored the 'Yotes' fourth run on a throwing error.

Stanislaus State got a runner on in the top of the seventh, but two groundouts stranded the runner and ended the game.

GAME TWO

Stanislaus State was the first one to score this time in the nightcap. Stan State's first five batters of the game all reached safely, including three consecutive singles to lead off the game from Thornsberry, Mori and DalBianco. Avery Fitch drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the first run and give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Melissa Spencer singled home Mori and it was 2-0.

But the Warriors would leave the bases loaded after a pop-up and a fielder's choice. They left six runners on in the nightcap – five in scoring position.

Meanwhile, Cal State San Bernardino slowly whittled away at the deficit and eventually took the lead with a big fifth inning. Single runs in the first and second innings tied it at 2-2. It stayed that way for the next 2 1/2 innings until CSUSB exploded for six in the bottom of the fifth. An RBI single from Alyssa Beck, back-to-back two-run doubles from Kyla Lowman and Kiki Foley, and finally, an RBI triple by Kelia Paragas, encapsulated the rally and made it 8-2.

The Coyotes put the game to bed in the bottom of the sixth, hitting back-to-back leadoff solo home runs. Shannon Galliano hit the first one to right-center field, and Tereise Tosi's solo shot to almost the same spot acted as a walk-off of sorts, as it put the eight-run rule in effect and ended the game.
