Warriors Come from Behind Twice to Sweep Otters in Doubleheader

SEASIDE — The Stanislaus State softball team came from behind twice Friday to sweep a California Collegiate Athletic Association series-opening doubleheader on the road, beating host Cal State Monterey Bay 6-2 in 11 innings, and 4-1, at the CSUMB Softball Field.

A trio of Warriors had hits in both games, led by Sheridan Gulley going a combined 4-for-8 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Madison Flexser (2 for 8, two RBIs) and Cherise Mori (3 for 8, RBI, run) also had hits in both.

Stanislaus State's (14-23, 8-18 CCAA) pitching was dominant on Friday. Delaney Pamplin (9-8) threw all 11 innings of the Warriors' extra-innings affair in the opener, only allowing one earned run and walking nobody with three strikeouts. It was the most innings thrown in a single game by a Warrior since Feb. 16, 2018, when Kylie Ragsdale also threw 11 frames against Cal State East Bay.

Kyndra Marzorini (4-9) added her own complete game in the nightcap, not allowing an earned run and walking none while scattering seven hits across seven innings. She's now thrown a complete game in each of her last five starts.

The twinbill sweep helped the Warriors gain ground on a potential CCAA Tournament berth. CCAA sixth-place team Cal State East Bay lost one game Friday, allowing the Warriors to pull within three games of a qualifying spot. The top-six teams in the standings at season's end will make the tournament, scheduled to be held at Cal State Monterey Bay.
