ROHNERT PARK — Two strong complete-game performances on the mound Saturday helped lead the Stanislaus State baseball team to a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader split on the road at Sonoma State, winning game one, 3-1, before falling in the nightcap, 2-1, at Seawolf Diamond.
Â
Maxwell Pappas (5-3) threw his second complete game in as many starts in the opener, earning the victory with only one earned run allowed and nine strikeouts. He walked just one and scattered six hits. Meanwhile,
Grant Bunker backed him up with his sixth home run of the season,
Matt Elser went 2 for 4 with a double, and the Warriors (10-22, 8-19 CCAA) out-hit Sonoma State (12-20, 9-14 CCAA), 8-6.
Â
Casey Carr (0-5) also threw a complete game in the seven-inning nightcap. He went six innings and only allowed two earned runs while striking out five. But his counterpart, Jason Doktorczyk, was even better, limiting Stan State to one run on five hits with six strikeouts in the victory.
