A Last-Minute Warriors Goal Leads to a 1-1 Draw at Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD – It took the Warriors a full 90 minutes to even the score at 1-1 against Cal State East Bay. Adam Mockridge put a desperation goal in the back of the net after a free kick from Jorge Lara.

Stan State ripped six shots in the first half with two of them on target, to try and score their first goal since a 0-0 draw at Western Oregon. The team couldn't seem to get it done after tries from Juniors Luis Cordero and Daniel Gomez were saved by the Pioneers. East Bay was able to strike first in the 32nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. Warriors Goalkeeper Alex Renderos accounted for two saves in the opening half effort.

The second half saw a high-volume shooting display from both sides, as Stan State let eight shots go to East Bay's nine. The Pioneers made a final attempt to put the game out of reach with an 86th minute shot attempt that sailed over Renderos in goal. The visiting Warriors had a golden opportunity to come in clutch with only two minutes remaining and did just that. Senior Jorge Lara managed to draw a foul during rush down the far left sideline and got rewarded with the free kick. Lara's loft landed right into the possession of Junior Dayne Sturtevant, who put a timely header right at the feet of Sophomore Adam Mockridge for a Warrior goal in crunch time. Stan State iced the game at 1-1 to add another draw to their record this season.

The team heads back to Turlock to face off against UC Santa Cruz on Monday night at 7pm for their last game before they begin CCAA conference play.
