The Warriors Notch Their Third Conference Win over Monterey Bay

TURLOCK – The Warriors Volleyball club seems to love keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Two nail-biting final sets came with plenty of lead changes, something Stan State has become so used to closing out.

The opening set left nothing to chance, as the Warriors set the tone with an 8-3 lead following service aces from Sophomores Haley Burdo and Ellison Weaver. Alex Byrd and Natasha Mich handled the rest of the set with three kills of their own to take the first set 25-11. Byrd finished the match with eight kills, while Mich had seven.

Monterey Bay answered back in the second set, highlighted by a seven-point run to put them ahead 14-9. Costly errors put the Warriors out of reach to mount any sort of comeback, even after a Makenna Carrillo kill off a quick substitution to try and spark any life into a rough 14-25 loss in set two.

The Warriors were able to regroup after the long intermission and got their bearings in the third set. Three overpass kills from Eyriana Eatmon helped the Warriors gain some much-needed momentum in a close battle. Macky Morris led the team with 11 kills and was responsible for the final two kills of a 25-22 third set.

Burdo and Gabby Rawson did plenty of the trench work to keep their team's rallies alive in the closer. Burdo finished the match with a leading 26 assists to her peers, followed by another solid performance from Rawson with 26 digs and six assists. Burdo also assisted on five of the team's final kills to take home their third conference victory on the tail end of a tough back-to-back home stand.

The collective will have a few days of rest before they prepare for a Tuesday night non-conference match against Holy Names at 5:00pm in Fitzpatrick Arena.
