TURLOCK – The Warriors go the distance, as they come out with a 3-2 victory over Holy Names at Fitzpatrick Arena. The two teams traded set victories in the first four sets of the match, as the Warriors ultimately make the final run to win sets four and five.Â
Â
Sophomore
Haley Burdo put up a new career-high 29Â assists, followed by Senior
Macky Morris holding the team down with 16 kills on the evening. The Hawks managed to steal a tough opening set from Stanislaus State in a 24-26 effort, while the Warriors managed to get hot in the final two crunch time sets.
The rest of the team carried their share of big time numbers too, with seven blocks from Sophomore
Alex Byrd, 18 digs from Junior
Gabby Rawson, 17 digs for Burdo, and 15 assists for JuniorÂ
Eyriana Eatmon. After going deep into their bench to try and haul some much needed momentum back into the arena, Junior
Faith Menary, Senior
Cassie Corbett, and Sophomore
Makenna Carrillo all chipped in some minutes of their own to give the Holy Names defense some different looks.Â
Â
The Warriors went on a scoring tear to spark a 25-12 fourth set blowout, and sealed the deal in the deciding set that was put to bed by an
Autumn Kirby block to take the final set W at home 15-11.
Â
"That was an incredible team win against an outstanding Holy Names team." said Head Coach
Lauren Flowers. "We needed everyone to step up and I'm proud of how Macky handled her increased role as teams are game planning to stop her. I loved our response in the 4th and 5th sets to protect our home court."
The team returns to The Fitz to protect their home turf once again on Friday, Sept. 23
rd at 5pm against Cal State San Marcos.
