Stan State Takes a Tough Home Loss Against the Pioneers

TURLOCK, Calif. – In a valiant effort to shake back from their first home loss of the season on Friday, the Warriors were unable to turn things around in a 1-3 final against Cal State East Bay.

Less than ideal offensive numbers plighted the home team in their sixth conference match of the year. Haley Burdo was responsible for 20 assists in the match, while she and Eyriana Eatmon each contributed 12 digs to help keep Stan State's rallies alive. Eatmon also shared the ball consistently with 15 assists. On the defensive end, Gabby Rawson did what she could with 25 digs and eight assists on the night.

Both teams went blow for blow to start the opening set, taking match point all the way to 28-26. Kills from Macky Morris, Natasha Mich, and Ellison Weaver headlined the attacking line for the Warriors, as they combined for 24 total kills.

The second set was equally competitive with neither team gaining much of an edge in the 23-25 finish. Alex Byrd, Autumn Kirby, and Morris were each responsible for 4 total blocks, two of which came in the second set alone.

Another change in the lineup came in the third set, as Faith Menary took the court to help boost the Stan State offense with some timely kills. She would go on to finish with five for the evening. The Warriors held on until a three-point run from the Pioneers that took the set to 21-25.

Down 1-2, the home squad did what they could to swing their way back into contention. Penelope Zepeda made her presence felt as she posted three kills, a solo block, and several service aces. However, Cal State East Bay seemed to have an answer for every look the Warriors dished out, finishing the job with a 25-16 match point.

The team will have plenty of time to regroup, as they hit the road for a Thursday night match against Cal Poly Humboldt at 7pm (1-8, 0-6 CCAA).
