SAN MARCOS, Calif.--- After dropping their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener on Friday, the Stanislaus State Warriors posted their second shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over Cal State San Marcos this afternoon at The Cage in San Marcos, Calif.
Jackzeny Mancilla scored the Warriors' first goal off a ball from
Sabrina Cabrera in the 29
th minute for her first goal of the season.
Alexis Brewah connected on her team leading seventh goal of the season on a ball from
Marivic Lek-Miro in the 58
th minute to seal the win for the victors.
FIRST HALF: Stan State (4-2-2, 1-1 CCAA) had five shot attempts in the first 15 minutes of the match including three by
Marivic Lek-Miro. The Warriors finally converted their shot attempt into a goal in the 29
th minute. That is when
Jackzeny Mancilla connected on a ball from
Sabrina Cabrera to give the visitors the 1-0 lead. This was Mancilla's first goal of the season. Cal State San Marcos (3-4-2, 1-1 CCAA) had a couple of chances to tie the match late in the half, but they all went wide left or over the top of the crossbar as the Warriors took a 1-0 lead into the half.
SECOND HALF: The Warriors doubled their lead just 12 minutes into the new stanza when
Alexis Brewah scored her team leading seventh goal on a ball from Lek-Miro. Brewah had a chance to increase the Warrior lead to 3-0 in the 63
rd minute but Allison Marcure stopped her shot on goal attempt. Cal State San Marcos looked like it was going to cut into the Warrior lead, but
Alexia Estrada recorded one of her two saves on the day stopping Devyn Kelley's shot on goal attempt. Stan State had another chance to increase its lead, but
Jocelyn Lopez's shot on goal attempt was snagged the Cougar keeper in the 83
rd minute as the visitors held on for the 2-0 victory.
FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL: Jackzeny Mancilla scored her first goal as a Warrior this afternoon in the 29
th minute off a ball from
Sabrina Cabrera. On the other end of the spectrum,
Alexis Brewah scored her team leading seventh goal of the season on a ball from
Marivic Lek-Miro.
NUMBER TWO: Alexia Estrada had two saves in the shutout for the Warriors this afternoon. For the season, Estrada has two shutouts with a 1.00 goals against average.
ALSO, FIRSTS: With their assists today,
Sabrina Cabrera and
Marivic Lek-Miro recorded their first of the season. As a team, the Warriors have 11 assists with
Alexis Brewah leading the way with three.
UP NEXT: Stan State will return home to Warrior Stadium for a pair of CCAA matches this September 30-October 2. The Warriors will host SF State on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7pm. During the match, the Warriors will be celebrating the 50
th Anniversary of Title IX. Two days later on Oct. 2, Stan State will host No. 22 Sonoma State at 2pm.
