TURLOCK, Calif.--- The Stanislaus State Warriors outshot their visitors, San Francisco State Gators 15-7 including 8-4 in shot on goal attempts, but the Warriors fell this evening 1-0. The Gators scored in the 28th minute as Denis Vezina scored off a missed shot by Emerson Trujillo. Stan State continues its weekend this Sunday, October 2 at 11:30am, when the Warriors host Sonoma State.
FIRST HALF: Stan State (4-3-3, 1-2 CCAA) had the match's first chance for the lead in the fifth minute. The Warriors were fouled in the box, but Matias Herrera Fuentes stopped
Daniel Gomez's penalty kick attempt. The Warriors had another chance for the lead, but
Tyler Tipton's shot was stopped by the Gator keeper in the 16
th minute. They had had another chance in the 26
th minute when
Dayne Sturtevant's shot on goal attempt was snagged by the Gator keeper. With 18 minutes left in the half, Emerson Trujillo's shot was blocked by the Warrior defense, but Denis Vezina connected on the rebound to give the Gators the 1-0 lead. The Warriors had a chance to tie the match when Tipton's shot sailed high over the cross bar as the match went into the half with SF State leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: SF State (3-2-4, 1-0-2 CCAA) had a chance to double its lead, when Gustavo Ferrari's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Warriors'
Robby Rosas in the 49
th minute. Tipton had another chance in the 54
th minute, but Tipton's went over the crossbar. In the 62
nd minute,
Adam Mockridge's shot on goal attempt was blocked by the Gator defense. With nine minutes left,
Jack Montejano had a chance to tie the match for the hosts when the Gator keeper made another one of his eight saves on the night.
Jorge Lara's shot attempt went over the top right of the goal as the match ended with SF State winning 1-0.
ADVANTAGE: Stan State held a 15-7 advantage in shot attempts including 8-4 in shot on goal attempts.
Adam Mockridge had three shot attempts including two on goal while
Tyler Tipton had three shot attempts including two on goal. The Warriors also had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
