TURLOCK, Calif. – It what was a hard-nosed game for both ball clubs, as a heartbreaking exchange of buckets down the stretch leave the Warriors down one point at the final buzzer. The CCAA's leading scorer
Makayla Rose erupts for a new career-high 38 points on an efficient 14 for 26 shooting night, adding five rebounds and four steals to her stat sheet against Cal Poly Pomona.
FIRST QUARTER: Stan State managed to buckle down defensively to start the game, forcing six turnovers off of four blocks and two steals in the first period alone. The Warriors also sunk a solid 40.0% of their three-point attempts in the quarter to help them establish a two-point lead at the first buzzer 21-19.
SECOND QUARTER: Rose was responsible for eight of the team's 10 points in the second quarter, connecting on two three-point attempts of her five connections from deep in the game.
Joia Armstrong also connecting on one of her 10 points before the half. The Warriors would find themselves trailing the Broncos 31-35 on their way into the locker room.
THIRD QUARTER: With the first half in the books, Rose and Armstrong got busy offensively for Stan State, scoring all of the team's third quarter baskets. With few answers defensively to the Broncos hot shooting in the period, Pomona found themselves up nine after 100% shooting percentages from beyond the arc and at the charity stripe.
FOURTH QUARTER: Ashmeen Sran opened up the fourth with a deep three-pointer to give her team some much needed juice, as the Warriors continued to feed the hot hand of Rose who drew timely fouls and sunk clutch shots in the final minutes of the game. After what looked to be a game winning drive to the paint from Rose with only a few seconds left on the clock, a Pomona three-pointer off the glass took the air out of the arena in a tough 69-70 loss for the home Warriors.
