SAN FRANCISCO--- Stan State trailed 63-48 with 4:19 left in the game and went on a 15-4 run to end the game but it wasn't enough as San Francisco State held on for the 67-63 victory.
Marlon Short had a game high 18 points to lead the way for the Warriors while
Travion Williams added a season high 13 points.
Benno Zecic chipped in 10 points and recorded four steals for Stan State.
FIRST HALF: A
Jeremiah Jones lay-up gave the Warriors an 11-5 lead in the first nine minutes of the game. San Francisco State (8-9, 4-7 CCAA) outscored its guests 29-12 in the next seven minutes to take a 34-23 lead. A
Marlon Short jumper cut the Gator lead to 34-25, but Jalen Flanagan's jumper gave San Francisco State a 36-25 lead heading into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: The Gators continued their run in the second half to take a 43-27 lead in the first three minutes of the new stanza. An
Isaiah Jones jumper cut the Warrior deficit to 47-39 at the 12:38 mark of the second half. Three times in the next eight minutes, SF State increased its lead to 15 including 63-48 on a three-point field goal by CJ Bellamy with 4:19 left in regulation. Two free throws by
Benno Zecic capped a 15-2 run by the Warriors to cut the Gator lead to 65-63 with ten seconds on the clock. Jake Paxton sealed the win for SF State as he was fouled and connected on both free throws as the Gators took the 67-63 victory.
JUST MISSED A DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Travion Williams just missed recording his first double-double of the season this evening. Williams scored a career high 13 points on six-for-nine shooting from the field and went one-for-two from the line. He also grabbed nine rebounds and recorded a steal for Stan State (7-10, 5-6 CCAA).
SEVENTH STRAIGHT: Marlon Short recorded his seventh straight game scoring double digits with his 18 points. He went eight-for-16 from the field including one-for-two from three-point land. Short also made a fret throw and grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists. He has scored in double digits in all but two games this season.
15/10: Stan State forced 15 turnovers by the Gators including 10 by steals. Four of those steals came from
Benno Zecic while
Jeremiah Jones added three.
Kobe Ordonio,
Travion Williams and
Will Pallesi each had one steal.
SECOND STRAIGHT: Benno Zecic had his second straight game with no turnovers. This evening he had two assists and no turnovers. Zecic has had more assists than turnovers in all but four games this season.
UP NEXT: Stan State will continue its four-game road trip in Seaside, Calif., this Saturday, January 21 for a 3pm game with Cal State Monterey Bay. The Otters defeated Chico State 85-66 earlier this evening in Seaside.
