SEASIDE, Calif. – A tough shooting night for Stan State turned out to be an "on" night for the Otters in a tough road loss, as both teams meet for the first time this season.
Makayla Rose led her team in scoring on the day with 19 points on 7-15 shooting, while
Liliana Marques played a solid secondary role on offense with 11 points in the contest.
FIRST QUARTER: The first two and a half minutes of play went scoreless between both ball clubs, in a quarter that had solid contributions offensively for Rose,
Aunika Hornung, and
Alexis Woodson. The Warriors managed to force turnovers that would translate to buckets on the other end, but turnovers during their offensive possessions would make things tough with a 14-20 score before the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: Jadyn Patterson got into an offensive flow to start the second period, connecting on two jumpers and dishing out an assist. She would finish the game with eight points and four assists on 60% shooting. The Otters started to pull away after going 55.5% from the field and 66.7% from deep to push the lead to 12.
THIRD QUARTER: Marques would knock down back-to-back triples to try and cut the deficit, sinking three three-pointers in the quarter. However, perfect shooting from Monterey Bay at the foul line helped them balloon the lead to 17 in a game that looked tough to return fire in for Stan State.
FOURTH QUARTER: The Warriors pulled their starters and let their bench take some minutes in the fourth quarter, as
Lyric Richardson and
Iman Addison got a few points to fall through the net in another efficient shooting quarter for the Otters, who seemed to get everything to fall. Stan State will try and shake off the loss as they continue on the road for their next two matchups.
UP NEXT: Cal State Dominguez Hills is next on the list for the Warriors in their second meeting of the season. This time Stanislaus State will see the Toros on the road Thursday, Nov. 26
th at 1pm.
