CARSON, Calif. – It was a tough day for the Warriors, as they faced 6
th ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills in hostile territory for the second time this season.
Makayla Rose showed her usual scoring output, finishing with 28 points on 50% shooting from field.
FIRST QUARTER: Stan State stayed within reach for a majority of the first period, as the team did most of their damage offensively from the interior. Points in the paint from
Lyric Richardson,
Aunika Hornung, and Rose all kept the team within single digits until the final minutes of the quarter, where the Toros managed to pull away 24-11.
SECOND QUARTER: A scoring drought from the Warriors opened up scoring for Dominguez Hills, who shot just above 40% from the field in their first two quarters of play. Stan State's starters did what they could to maintain some offensive flow before the half, but a slew of turnovers saw the Toros up 19 at the buzzer.
THIRD QUARTER: The third quarter was much of the same for the Warriors, while
Iman Addison and
Joia Armstrong got a few buckets inside to go. Addison would finish with six points, two rebounds, and a block, while Armstrong ended the day with five points, five rebounds, and three steals on the defensive end. Slow scoring led to a sizable deficit for the Warriors on their way into the final 10 minutes of play.
FOURTH QUARTER: Rose continued to will her team to a respectable finish, despite struggling to shoot the ball from deep. Regardless, Dominguez Hills didn't seem to take their foot off the gas pedal with the game secured, finishing the game up 83-54.
UP NEXT: A shake back game for the Warriors is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28 against the Pioneers of Cal State East Bay in Hayward at 1pm.
