TURLOCK, Calif.--- Four Stan State players scored in double figures paced by Marlon Short's fourth double-double of the season. Short scored a game high of 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kobe Ordonio and Jeremiah Jones each added 13 points while Will Pallesi chipped in 10 points for the Warriors who defeated Cal State East Bay 68-58 this evening at The Fitz.
FIRST HALF: After Cal State East Bay (4-9, 2-5 CCAA) scored the first four points of the game, the Warriors went on a 23-1 run in the next seven minutes capped by a Marlon Short jumper off an Isaiah Jones' assist to take a 23-5 lead. A Grady Lewis jumper cut the Stan State lead to 27-20 for the Pioneers with a little over five minutes left in the half. The Warriors came right back and increased their lead back to double digits (30-20) on an old-fashioned three-point play by Kobe Ordonio with four minutes left in the first stanza. An Ordonio free throw increased Stan State's lead to 36-22 late in the half, but a three by Ramsey Huff cut the Warrior lead to 36-25 heading into halftime.
SECOND HALF: Cal State East Bay came out of the locker room on fire as the visitors outscored their hosts 15-4 in the first eight minutes to cut the Warrior lead to 43-40. Stan State (5-8, 3-4 CCAA) came right back with a 6-2 run to increase its lead to 49-42 at the mid-way point of the second half. The Pioneers would not go away as a Tim Andreolli jumper cut the Stan State lead to 49-47 at the 8:29 mark of the second half. A Noel Alexander Jr. jumper off a Benno Zecic assist capped a 12-5 run by the Warriors as they increased their lead to nine (61-52) with just 4:47 left in regulation. Stan State went five-for-seven from the line in the final 94 seconds including Zecic sealing the win with two free throws with 24 seconds to go as the Warriors took the 68-58 victory.
FOUR IN DOUBLE FIGURES: Four Warriors scored in double digits this evening paced by Marlon Short's 19 points. Kobe Ordonio added 13 points and Jeremiah Jones had a season high 13 points off the bench. Will Pallesi added 10 points for the victors.
A DOUBLE-DOUBLE AND ALMOST ONE: Marlon Short recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He was six-for-12 from the field and a perfect three-for-three from the line. Short also had two assists and one steal in 35 minutes. Kobe Ordonio just missed his first double double as a Warrior as he scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
JUST MISSED CAREER HIGH: Jeremiah Jones just missed his career high by one point as he scored a season high 13 points this evening. Jones was five-for-nine from the field including two-for-four from three-point range and made one free throw off the bench for Stan State.
14/11: Stan State had 14 assists and just turned the ball over 11 times this evening. Benno Zecic led the way with five assists and three turnovers. Noel Alexander Jr. had two assists and no turnovers as did Marlon Short. Jeremiah Jones added an assist and no turnover.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will continue their season long five-game home stand this Saturday, January 7 at 3pm when they host Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toros lost 69-63 earlier this evening at Chico State.
