TURLOCK, Calif.--- The visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros outrebounded Stan State 40-27 to key their 68-56 road win over the Warriors at The Fitz.
Marlon Short paced the Warriors with 15 points while
Travion Williams scored 10 points.
FIRST HALF: The first half was evenly played for the first six minutes until the Toros went on a 7-0 run to take a 19-12 lead. A
Travion Williams' field goal cut the Toro lead to 22-21 with nine minutes left in the half. Two Jordan Hilstock free throws with four minutes left in the half increased CSUDH's lead to 30-25. A
Benno Zecic three off a pass from
Marlon Short capped a 7-0 run by the Warriors as they took a 32-30 lead with a little under two minutes on the clock. Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-6, 3-4 CCAA) scored the last five points of the half to take a 35-32 lead into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: A
Will Pallesi three and a
Daniel Ameyaw jumper gave Stan State (5-9, 3-5 CCAA) a 37-35 lead just a minute into the new stanza. Five minutes later, CSUDH took a 43-40 lead on two free throws by David Cheatom. Stan State went on a 5-0 run capped by a Williams' lay-up off a pass from Pallesi and a steal by Zecic to take a 45-43 lead at the 12:04 mark of the second half. The guests followed that Warrior run with a 11-2 run of their own to take a 54-47 lead. A Short three off a pass from
Kobe Ordonio cut the Stan State deficit to 56-54 with 6:21 left in regulation. That is the closest that the hosts would get as CSUDH took the 68-56 victory.
ONCE AGAIN MORE A'S THAN T'S: Stan State dished out 12 assists this afternoon with ten turnovers.
Benno Zecic paced the Warriors with six assists and four turnovers.
Will Pallesi had two assists and one turnover while
Kobe Ordonio and
Travion Williams each had one assist and no turnover.
12 TURNOVERS: The Warriors forced 12 turnovers by CSUDH including five by steals.
Benno Zecic had four of those steals and
Marlon Short added one.
CAREER HIGH: Travion Williams had a career high 10 points this afternoon, going three-for-six from tohe field and four-for-six from the line. He grabbed six rebounds and dished out one assist in 31 minutes.
HOME STAND CONTINUES: Stan State's season long five-game home stand continues next week with a pair of games against No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona. The Warriors will host CSUSB on Thursday, January 12 at 7:30pm and Pomona on Saturday, January 14 at 3pm before beginning a four-game road trip on Thursday, January 19 at SF State.
