Slow Warriors Start Ends in 63-73 Finish Against the Pioneers

TURLOCK, Calif. – What started as an early scoring drought for the Warriors ended in a valiant rally back into contention in a tale of two halves. Makayla Rose and Ashmeen Sran led the way with a combined 32 points for the team, while Joia Armstrong denies five Pioneer shot attempts for a new career-high in blocks.

FIRST QUARTER: Stan State started their day with a seven-minute scoring drought that put them down 16-0 for a majority of the opening quarter. A layup from Aunika Hornung finally broke the ice for the Warriors, who found themselves down 8-22 on their way into the second quarter. Hornung would finish with a career-high seven points, while adding two steals to the mix.

SECOND QUARTER: Rose was able to get going offensively in the second quarter, while Sran secured five of her 11 points on the night to help will the home team back into contention. Bench player buckets from Jadyn Patterson and Iman Addison shrunk the lead to within four points heading into the second half.

THIRD QUARTER: Armstrong took over the third quarter for the Warriors on both ends of the floor. With two assists and three steals to add onto her monster night, she finished with seven points, five of which came at the free throw line. The 6'5 force of Ashley Lewis checked in and made immediate impacts offensively, knocking down two points in the paint to secure a career high four points on a perfect shooting night. The Warriors stayed within arm's reach of the Cal State East Bay, heading into the fourth quarter down 41-57.

FOURTH QUARTER: Despite a hot shooting third quarter, the Warriors couldn't manage to take the lead from the Pioneers in the game. Stan State would see their opponents pull away some rough shooting down the stretch. The impressive comeback ended in a 63-73 final for the Warriors, who have a quick turnaround this Saturday back at home.

UP NEXT: The Warriors continue their home stand against #20 Cal State Dominguez Hills this Saturday, Nov. 7th at 1pm in their first meeting against the Toros this season.
