A Hot Start for the Warriors Ends 56-68 Against the #20 Toros

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Warriors gave Cal State Dominguez Hills a run for their money in the early going of their afternoon matchup at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena. Makayla Rose erupted for a game high 21 points on 7-13 shooting to help keep her team in contention against the undefeated Toros.

FIRST QUARTER: Rose and Joia Armstrong took the bulk of the offensive possessions to start the game, scoring 13 of the team's 22 points to head into the second quarter with a four-point lead after forcing Dominguez Hills into some contested shots on defense.

SECOND QUARTER: Iman Addison was responsible for the team's only two buckets on the offensive end in the second period, and the Toros managed to pull away for a 33-26 lead before halftime.

THIRD QUARTER: Stan State managed to find some new life in the second half with buckets from Aunika Hornung and Amaya McLeod who combined for 10 points on the day, but foul trouble led to free points at the foul line for the Toros. Dominguez Hills would stretch their lead to 11 with a quarter to go.

FOURTH QUARTER: Alexis Woodson came alive in the fourth, connecting on all six of her points in the first two and a half minutes of play. Despite their efforts, the Toros managed to pull away after shooting 43.7% from the field in the final quarter to take the 12-point victory.

FORCING TURNOVERS: The Warriors continued their scrappy defensive play, forcing nine steals and eight blocks on the day.

UP NEXT: Stan State will see Cal State San Bernardino at home on Thursday, Jan. 13th at 5:30pm, followed by Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, Jan. 15th.
