Pioneers Use Strong Second Half to Key 2-0 Win Over Stan State

TURLOCK, Calif.---   Cal State East Bay scored two unanswered goals to key its 2-0 victory over Stan State this afternoon at Warrior Stadium.  Stan State returns to the pitch this Friday, October 6 for a 3pm match at No. 21 Cal State San Bernardino as the Warriors begin a three-match road trip. 
 
FIRST HALF:  Cal State East Bay (6-1-1, 1-0 CCAA) had a chance for the early 1-0 lead I the seven minute when Robby Rosas stopped Tim Cerjak's shot on goal attempt.  The Warriors came down the pitch and it looked like they were going to take the 1-0 lead, but Marco Carbajal's shot attempt sailed over the goal.  Stan State had two more chances for the lead, but Finn Hoffmann and Marco Carbajal shot attempts sailed high over the net.  The hosts had two more chances, but Edgar Castaneda and Hoffman's shots went wide as the match went into the half scoreless.  
 
SECOND HALF:  Robby Rosas made two of his ten saves in the first six minutes of the second half when Clayton Branco and Aidan Raftery's shots to keep the match scoreless.  Edgar Castaneda had another chance to give Stan State the lead, but Adan Cordona stopped his shot on goal attempt in the 61st minute.  With 19 minutes left in the match, Tyler Tipton had two chances to give the hosts the lead in the 72nd minute but Corona came up big for the Pioneers.  The guests took the 1-0 lead in the 78th minute on a goal by Julian Valle off a pass from Tim Cerjak.   Finn Hoffman looked like he was going to tie the match at 1-1 for Stan State (3-6, 0-2 CCAA) but his shot went high over the net.  Cal State East Bay doubled its lead on a goal by Mateo Didomenico off an assist from Aaron Farnan in the 84th minute as the Pioneers took the 2-0 CCAA victory. 
 
STATS:  Robby Rosas had ten saves in goal for the Warriors and Adan Corona had four saves in goal for the Pioneers. Cal State East Bay out-shot the Warriors 17-12 including 12-4 in shot on goal attempts.  Both teams had three corner kick attempts.   
 
UP NEXT:  The Warriors will commence on a three-match road trip with pair of CCAA matches in Southern California.  They will face No. 21 Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, October 6 at 3pm in San Bernardino, Calif.  Stan State will travel to Pomona, Calif., for a 2pm starting match at No. 13 Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday, October 8.  The Warriors will finish off the three-match road trip on Thursday, October 12 at 3pm in Arcata, Calif., for a 3pm match with Cal Poly Humboldt.  They will return home on Sunday, October 15 at 2pm for a match with Sonoma State.
